The UN Security Council has approved a boost in its peacekeeping and police forces in Haiti to help control outbursts of looting and violence that have hampered relief efforts.

Meanwhile, thousands more US troops are on their way to Haiti to insure security in the devastated country.

The UN Security Council voted Tuesday to fulfill the UN chief's request to add one thousand five hundred more UN police and two thousand more peacekeepers. They will join the nine thousand UN security personnel already stationed in Haiti.

Zhang Yesui, China's Ambassador to UN, said, "The result of the voting is as follows. The draft resolution received 15 votes in favor. The draft resolution has been adopted unanimously as resolution 1908."
