Iran's ties with Britain under review

Iran's Foreign Minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, said that Tehran may sever diplomatic ties with Britain. He said the future of bilateral relations will be determined in accordance with Iran's national interests.

Iranian Foreign Minister, Manouchehr Mottaki"Having taken relations with Britain into account, we have found that there are 12 working fields between Iran and Britain. All of these are being examined and reviewed and in each case, we will look into issues based on national interests and the interests of our country and people. And finally the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran will make the decision."

Iran, accused Britain and other western countries for backing the unrest after last year's presidential election. Britain however denied the charge and condemned the government crackdown on the Iranian opposition. Iranian authorities have constantly accused Britain of interfering in Iran's internal affairs and supporting the country's opposition groups.
