Special Report: Strong Quake Hits Haiti |

With hospitals destroyed or heavily damaged in Haiti, more than three-thousand earthquake victims are receiving medical treatment in neighboring Dominican Republic.

Among them is the president of Haiti's Senate, Kelly Bastien. Patients were being transported from Port-au-Prince to Hospital General Meleciano Tuesday, on the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic. A doctor at the hospital says many patients arrived needing foot or hand amputations and all had infections.

Doctor Carolina Mella, Hospital General Meleciano, said, "We've gotten a few patients needing maxillofacial care, which is the area that I work in, we've had some broken jaws, upper jaw fractures, nasal fractures. But what we are seeing most is patients needing orthopaedic attention, traumatic amputations and all patients are arriving with infections."
