Iran's Foreign Minister has criticized his British counterpart's recent comments on the country's crackdown on protestors.

Speaking at a news conference on Tuesday with his Somali counterpart, Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki described David Miliband's remarks as "nonsense".

Miliband, had said earlier it was "particularly disturbing" to hear reports of the crackdown.

Manouchehr Mottaki, Iran's Foreign Minister, said, "The protesters should not get excited about a couple of baseless statements made by some countries. If Britain does not end its nonsense remarks, it will be slapped in the mouth. Cheap remarks by some foreign officials are typical of their disgraceful record in their contradictory and inconsistent interaction with Iran."
