President Hu Jintao has attended a banquet hosted by Macao's government. He says the central government will continue its policies in Macao.

The banquet was held at the Macao East Asia Games Dome. Hu Jintao extended his warm wishes to guests and Macao residents.

Hu Jintao, Chinese President, said, "Fellow citizens and friends: I am very happy to come to Macao and join you to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland. On behalf of the central government and all of the Chinese people, I want to pass on my sincere greetings and best wishes to you and all of the Macao residents."

The President vowed the central government would adhere to the policies of "one country, two systems" and "Macao people governing Macao." He says they will uphold the Basic Law of Macao and fully support the Chief Executive and government of the Special Administrative Region.

Hu Jintao notes the government will continue to fully support Macao's economic development, improve living standards, push forward democratic advancement and promote harmony. Cooperation between Macao and the mainland will be deepened and relations with foreign countries is to be enhanced.

President Hu Jintao also announced two giant pandas will be sent from the mainland to Macao to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the region's return to China.
