Special Report: Macao 10 Years On |
Have you ever tried Portuguese food? The Fernando Restaurant at the Hac Sa, or black sand beach, is said to be one of the best in the SAR. Owner Fernando Gomez has lived in Macao for decades, and has built quite a reputation. His successful business and happy life in Macao is a portraiture of the current Macao.
Before I asked any questions, Fernando said he would treat me to lunch.
Now that's hospitality. The restaurant's specialties are seafood and roast suckling pig.
The business runs so well that Fernando doesn't have to spend every day inside the restaurant.
Fernando admits there are too many little details to deal with.
Besides, the downturn isn't over yet.
With his cooking techniques and excellent service, Fernando has won his place in a Chinese society, while his personality remains purely Portuguese.
Fernando said, "This one is very good. I am comfortable here. We are just like a family."
At our request, Fernando tried to find whether any of his guests would speak on camera about the restaurant and the SAR.
Unfortunately no one would. And Fernando himself is not good at talking up the current situation.
But his quality of life can be seen in his successful restaurant, whose policy is "No reservations."
