Weather centers predict more snow for the weekend. Compounding the problem, temperatures will fall to fifteen below zero in the region.
The cold has also caused traffic problems in the Romanian capital of Bucharest, while in other parts of the country, police have been busy with a number of weather related accidents.
Even some rail networks were temporarily suspended. Also, the Serbian capital Belgrade is under a blanket of snow, and city services are being stretched to the limit. Some schools have been forced to close in rural areas of the country.
