Iran says it has successfully tested what it calls an upgraded version of its longest-range, solid-fuel missile.

State English Language Press TV aired pictures of what it claims is the successful launch of the Sajjil-2 missile, a high-speed, surface-to-surface missile with a range of about 2 thousand kilometers.

The range places Israel, well within reach and could reach as far away as southeastern Europe with greater precision than earlier models. Iran is also known to possess a medium-range ballistic missile - the Shahab-3. It has a range of at least 1,300 kilometers.

The Sajjil-2 missile is Iran's most advanced two-stage surface-to-surface missile and is powered entirely by solid-fuel.

The older Shahab-3 uses a combination of solid and liquid fuel in its most advanced form.
