Russia and the United States are soon set to sign a new pact to cut their stockpiles of nuclear arms. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says it will be a successor deal to the expired START-1 treaty.

Lavrov says the treaty will be signed soon, but would not give an exact date. A senior Kremlin aide said on Tuesday that the two countries intended to conclude their nuclear disarmament talks this month.

The START-1,or the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, was signed in 1991 between the Soviet Union and the United States. This deal expired last Saturday.
