Iraq's presidential council has postponed the country's parliamentary elections by 7 weeks. March 6th will be the new date for the vote.
Iraq was able to set the new election date only after parliament approved a new law on balloting guidelines. The law was passed during an emergency session convened before the Sunday deadline. The head of Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission said the commission has promised the Iraqi people it will hold good and honest elections that will meet their demands and honor their confidence.
