Special Report: UN climate change conference in Copenhagen |
Climate change activists tried to march to the United States Embassy in Manila on Monday. The effort was an attempt to convey their fears ahead of the Climate Change Conference that began this week in Copenhagen.
Protesters were quickly stopped by police from reaching the compound. The point of the demonstration according a group leader, was out of concern the US would again refuse to commit to a treaty to cut its CO2 emissions.
Negotiations, on a successor treaty to the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, began in earnest 2 years ago. This new deal is aimed at reducing CO2 , and other Earth warming gases, from 1990 levels.
