Special Report: World tackles A/H1N1 flu |
The mutation of the A/H1N1 flu virus has raised concerns around the world. Experts say that mutation is inevitable. But doubts emerged about whether the current vaccine can protect against it.
So far, 7 countries have reported a mutation of the virus, including Norway, Ukraine, the US, Mexico, Brazil, Japan and China. But the World Health Organization says that though the mutation is the same kind in all of these countries, each case is individual and unrelated. It also says that the mutated virus can be treated and is not drug-resistant.
It can also be prevented by using the same vaccine currently in circulation. If any study revealed that a mutation could be a threat, the WHO would advise all countries to adjust their preventative measures.
