The Foreign Ministry has announced that Premier Wen Jiabao will attend the Copenhagen climate summit in December. The summit is expected to renew greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets set by the Kyoto Protocol. Ahead of the event, China laid out its plan to tackle climate change.

In a State Council meeting presided over by Premier Wen Jiabao on Wednesday, the Chinese cabinet reiterated its stand on the implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, or UNFCCC and the Kyoto Protocol.

It said both the UNFCCC principle of "common but differentiated responsibilities" and the Bali Roadmap authorizations should be observed.

The State Council announced that China is going to reduce the intensity of carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP in 2020 by 40 to 45 percent compared with the level of 2005.
