A unique aspect of APEC summits, is it gives world leaders a chance to put aside their plain business attire, to don the traditional clothing of the host country. This year's theme will be Asian fusion.

There will be plenty of political and economic statements made at this week's APEC meetings. But the most memorable sight might be the Peranakan-inspired outfits designed for attending APEC leaders.

The fashion list will include long-sleeved linen shirts with mandarin collars for the men, and a V-necked blouse with elaborate embroidery and lace for the women.

Male APEC leaders can choose blue, red or green, while female leaders will wear red.

Singaporean designer, Wykidd Song, says the idea came from the Peranakan culture, which displays a unique blend of Chinese, Malay and Indian cultures. He hopes the creation will find a permanent place in the closets of world leaders.

Wykidd Song, Singapore designer, said, "It really is about something beautiful that they can take out and wear again."

For the first time in APEC history, the leaders will be wearing the outfits for an entire evening, even after the traditional photo-taking session on Saturday.
