Senior APEC officials discuss economy

Senior officials from the 21 members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, reached a consensus on how to boost economic growth.

They met in Singapore ahead of the APEC Leaders' Meeting, which will open over the weekend.

At the two-day conference,participants focused on the global financial crisis and multilateral trade mechanisms. They discussed ways to promote inclusive, sustainable and balanced economic growth.

They agreed to accelerate regional economic integration, oppose trade protectionism and support the early conclusion of the Doha Round of world trade negotiations.

The meeting endorsed a report to be submitted to the APEC ministerial meeting.
