The Israeli military says its commandos captured a ship carrying missiles and anti-tank weapons from Iran to Syria. Officials say the ship was seized before dawn on Tuesday in the waters near Cyprus.
Based on intelligence reports, a naval unit patrolling the area intercepted and boarded the vessel without incident.
According to defense officials, weapons, including Katyusha rockets, were stashed on the commercial vessel operating under the guise of an aid ship.
Israel claims the ship was headed for Syria. Officials say an Iranian document was found on board, showing the arms shipment originated from Iran.
The paper was not shown to the media. Israel accuses Syria and Iran of supplying Lebanon's Hezbollah fighters with weapons using air, sea and land routes.
