South Korea's Foreign Ministry says that a security contingent of police and troops will be sent to Afghanistan to guard the work of a new and larger team of civilian engineers. The troops will not be allowed to engage in combat operations.
In 2007, 23 South Korean church workers were kidnapped and two killed by the Taliban forces in Afghanistan.
