If fashion magazines are to be believed, then the new trend hitting the world's catwalks isn't what the models are wearing but the models themselves.
New York, London, Milan and Paris all showcased their fair share of Asian models at the spring/summer shows this year. The China final of Elite Model Look 2009 was held in Paris for the first time, showing the growing trend of Asian models in the predominantly Caucasian fashion world. The director of Elite Model Management in Paris says it's down to China's growing power.
Gerald Marie, Director of Elite Model MGMT., said, "I think this is going to increase, it was zero before. But it's true that it went real fast, as fast as the Chinese economy is going, so it means super fast."
One aspiring model gave her take on the difference between models from the East and their western counterparts.
Liu Ying, Model, said, "I think our beauty is more modest, more gentle and the western way for beauty is more passion, more open. This is different."
However, not all are in agreement. Some have discounted the trend, saying it's a return to "exotic" looks and not necessarily a renewed Asian interest. But with all things fashion however, nothing lasts forever.
