South Korea is asking for talks with the DPRK to prevent floods like last month's abrupt release of water from a reservoir.
Unification Ministry spokesman Chun Hae-sung says they've proposed the two sides meet on Wednesday at a joint border city to discuss how to prevent floods in the Imjin River.
The DPRK released a massive amount of water from a dam into the Imjin River on September 6th without advance notice. The resulting flood swept six South Koreans to their deaths. South Korea demanded the DPRK explain why it opened the floodgates abruptly. Pyongyang responded that it was because the water level behind the dam was too high.
South Korea also proposed that their Red Cross societies meet on Friday at a DPRK mountain resort to discuss the reunions of families separated by the Korean War.
