Polish President Lech Kaczynski ratified the European Union's Lisbon treaty on Saturday. This leaves the Czech Republic as the only nation yet to approve the agreement.
The charter must be ratified by all 27 EU member states before it can take effect. Pressure is intensifying on the Czech Republic to sign the treaty. Czech President Vaclav Klaus says he will seek an exemption for his country before signing the document.
Kaczynski signed the treaty during a ceremony in the country's capital, Warsaw.
European Commission President Jose Barroso joined other European leaders to witness the moment.
Kaczynski expressed optimism after signing the treaty.
Lech Kaczynski said, "Within the framework of cooperation among sovereign states, we will achieve even better results, in the interest of individual states, in the interest of Europe and in the interest of the world."
European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek welcomed Poland's ratification of the treaty.
