China, Japan, S. Korea deepen trilateral cooperation

China, Japan and South Korea have vowed to deepen their trilateral cooperation. This is according to a joint statement issued during a three nation summit held in Beijing today.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama and South Korean President Lee Myung-bak reviewed a decade of trilateral cooperation and discussed future plans.

High on the meeting's agenda were joint efforts to combat the financial crisis and climate change. They also discussed the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the trilateral cooperative mechanism between the three neighboring countries.

Premier Wen Jiabao commented on the significance of this year's meeting.

Wen Jiabao, Chinese Premier, said, "This year is crucial for us to cope with the global financial crisis and resume economic growth. The trilateral summit offers a great opportunity for leaders to review and summarize the progress of trilateral cooperation and draw up the future plan. We will also exchange views on important international and regional issues. It is essential for mutual political trust and promoting mutual cooperation for the development of Asia."

The leaders agreed that the three nations must have greater mutual trust in the political field.
