Australia has extended congratulations on the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd delivered the message in fluent Chinese, saying that he believes China-Australia ties will be further developed in the coming years.

Kevin Rudd, Australian PM, said, "With the 60th anniversary of the founding of the PRC approaching, I hereby extend the warmest congratulations from the Australian people to the Chinese government and the Chinese people. In the past 60 years, China has made great achievements. Hundreds of millions of Chinese people have risen out of poverty through their hard work and determination. China has opened up to the world. It also has become a major driving force in the global economy and a key participant in world issues, including the financial crisis and climate change. China and Australia now enjoy very solid bilateral relations based on common interests and mutual respect. We're glad to see that since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1972 Australia has become an important partner of China. I believe the close bilateral relationship will continue to develop."
