Iranian state media reports that the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps have launched fresh missiles tests.
State media says the IRGC successfully test fired home-made Sejil on Monday, which is said to have a range of two-thousand kilometers. Reports say Iran also tested several missiles on the same day, including the"upgraded" versions of Shahab 3, a surface-to-surface one. The moves are considered as the third round of missile tests in two days of drills by the IRGC. The war games coincide with increased tension in Iran's nuclear row with the West, after last week's disclosure by Iran it is building a second uranium enrichment plant. Tehran says there is no link between the missile manoeuvres and its nuclear activities.
Hassan Qashqavi, spokesman of Iranian Foreign Ministry, said, "The main purpose of the missile tests is of a defensive nature. We have made progress in missile technology, so we need to perform such tests, just like the other countries. There is no link between the missile maneuvers and the our peaceful nuclear activities. This is a military drill which is deterrent in nature, and there is no connection whatsoever with the nuclear programme. The tests are nothing new."
