The Chinese Embassy in the UK has held a reception to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Chinese Ambassador to the UK, Fu Ying, the UK's First Secretary of State, Peter Mandelson, Home Secretary, Alan Johnson along with a thousand guests attended the reception.

Fu Ying, delivered a speech, highlighting dramatic changes in China over the past 60 years.

Fu Ying added that China will continue to make great contributions to world harmony, and shoulder the responsibility of confronting challenges.

She also called for joint cooperation between China and the UK, in pushing forward bilateral ties.

During the reception, Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, sent his greetings by video, saying China's stability and prosperity are closely related to British interests.

He also said China is playing a crucial role in the world economy. The reception included an exhibition of stamps and pictures, showcasing 60-years of development in China.
