Special Report: Hu attends UN, G20 Summits |
During the UN general assembly session, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak says the DPRK must scrap its nuclear programme before the divided Korean Peninsula could be unified.
Lee is urging the North side back to the six-party talks to achieve genuine peace on the Korean Peninsula, and for its own sake as well.
His offer would give the North economic and political incentives, including a security guarantee, in exchange for irreversibly dismantling its nuclear programme.
Lee Myung-bak, South Korean President, said, "In particular a nuclear weapons free the Korean Peninsula must be realized in order to obtain peace in Northeast Asia and beyond. Denuclearization is a pre-requisite to paving a path toward genuine reconciliation and unification on the Korean Peninsula which is the only remaining divided region in the world."
