Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari delivered a major address on international policy, telling an audience in London that democracy has achieved considerable successes in Pakistan.
In a policy address to the International Institute of Strategic Studies, Zardari said democracy had "united the nation against terrorists". He also expressed a willingness to revive a dialogue with India disrupted by last November's Mumbai attack in which 166 people were killed.
Zardari was visiting London ahead of a meeting next week in New York of a group of international donors called "Friends of Democratic Pakistan".
Zardari called for the international community to assist his country with "trade, not aid".
