Today marks the 61st anniversary of the founding of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The state is celebrating the anniversary with patriotic songs and odes.
Thousands of people in Pyongyang marched to the top of Mansu Hill to lay flowers at the foot of the statue of Kim Il Sung, known in the DPRK as the founder of the nation.
Others lined the streets, gathered at public plazas and took part in mass dances to celebrate the day. The anniversary is a major holiday in the DPRK, along with the birthdays of incumbent leader Kim Jong Il and his father Kim Il Sung.
