Incumbant Afghan president, Hamid Karzai, is keeping his lead over his rival Abdullah Abdullah in the presidential election.This, as the Independent Election Commission, or IEC, released more partial results on Wednesday.
The chief electoral officer said Karzai has won 44.8 percent, out of 940,000 votes counted.Abdullah 35.1 percent. When the first partial result came on Tuesday, Karzai had a 2 percentage lead over Abdullah.
The IEC said about one million votes have been counted. That's based on 17. 2 percent of the polling stations nationwide. Among them, about 60-thousand were invalid. The IEC said results will be updated daily and an official final result is expected on September 17th.
