Fifth-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has reached the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters after beating Nicolas Almagro of Spain in straight sets in Monaco. Frenchman Tsonga will now play two-time former champion Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain or Germany's Benjamin Becker.
The popular fifth seed, should have known that he was in for a tough match - Tsonga only beating Almagro 9-7 in the fifth set at the Australian Open. But Almagro converted only one of his 11 chances to break Tsonga as the delighted Frenchman, making his debut in Monte Carlo, reached the third round of the Masters with a 7-6, 7-5 win in straight sets.
