IOC president: Vancouver puts on world beating event

With the Winter games coming to an end, International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge has been praising Vancouver organizers, saying they overcame both tragedy and what he called "teething pains" to put on a world beating event.

IOC President Jacques Rogge said, "There's this extraordinary embrace of the entire city of the Olympic Games, something I have never seen on this scale before. The Games, I do need to repeat, started under very difficult conditions with the tragic death of Nodar Kumaritasvili and this something the Olympic movement will not forget, of course. However, it would be unfair not to judge the athletes performances and VANOC's performance on their own merit. The Games began, from what I would say from the view of VANOC, teething pains, but I commend VANOC for having rapidly corrected that."
