Mercedes bought a majority stake in Brawn GP, which won both the drivers' and constructors' championship titles in the 2009 season.

Rosberg drove for Williams for four seasons, but reached the podium only twice in four championships. The German finished third in the 2008 Australian Grand Prix and took second place in the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix in the same season.
Mercedes is now expected to try and win the signature of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher to drive the second team car.
