Peng Shuai sweeps golds in women's tennis

Moving to tennis news China's tennis ace Peng Shuai swept all four golds she competed for at the National Games. She capped a stunning run at the prestigious meet with the women's singles gold on Tuesday.

The Tianjin player knocked out tennis star Yan Zi in the semifinal, then faced Zhejiang's Han Xinyun in the singles final. Peng showed her best form in the first set, breaking Han's service game to lead 2 0. Young player Han Xinyun then took the 3rd game to make it 3 1. In the 8th game, Peng Shuai again broke the serve for her 3rd time in the set, to win the set 6 2.

The first set win boosted Peng Shuai's confidence, as she got off to 2 0 lead into the second set. At the end of 3rd game, Han called for a medical break. But it didn't seem to help. Back on the court, Han couldn't find her form, which handed Peng a 4 0 lead. Peng held her nerve to seal the second set 6 1 and with it the match.

Peng was obviously happy with the result, acknowledging the crowd after winning the title. Peng also became the athlete with the most gold medals won at the National Games.

Prior to the women's singles final, the 23 year old Peng, China's top women's tennis player, claimed the golds in women's doubles, mixed doubles and the team events.

But the National Games has also had its downs for the player, who broke into tears after losing to Zheng Jie in the women's singles final in the last Games four years ago. Compared with the 10th Games, she said she had improved a lot mentally as well as in technique.
