Chinese ace Peng Shuai won her third gold in the women's doubles event while also advancing to the singles finals on Monday.

Peng Shuai partnered Xu Yifan from Tianjin to face Sichuan's Zheng Jie and Yan Zi in the doubles final. The Sichuan duo got off to a quick start, winning the first two games. But Peng Shuai and her partner rallied to level the game at 4-all and from there went on to win the first set 6-4. Peng and Xu won the first game in the second set to love. The pair proved their dominance to lead 5-1 and went on to seal the win by taking the second set 6-1.

The title came as the icing on the cake for Peng after she inspired Tianjin to the women's team title and secured the mixed doubles gold on Sunday.

The 23-year-old has now got her sights on a record four golds at the prestigious meet after beating Yan Zi 2-0 in the semifinal at the singles event earlier on the day.

The tennis star from Tianjin now becomes the top favorite to win the title after Chinese number one Li Na pulled out of the tournament due to injury.

Facing Yan Zi in the semifinals, Peng Shuai seemed more confident. She broke three Yan Zi's serves in a row to comfortably win the first set to love. Peng continued to control the rhythm of the competition in the second set, wrapping up the win in straight sets to march into the final. There, Peng will face Zhejiang's Han Xinyun who earlier beat Zhang Shuai from Tianjin in straight sets.
