Guangdong wrap up 2 golds in 4X400M relays

Guangdong stormed to victory in the women's 4 X 400 meter relay with a strong final burst.

Guangdong's last runner Chen Yanmei thrilled the crowd with a powerful sprint, gradually narrowing the gap with Shandong's top 400m runner Huang Xiaoxiao.

Chen made a tenacious late sprint and caught up with Huang to cross the line neck-and-neck. Neither side knew the final result until the photo finish showed Chen crossed the line first in 3 minutes 30.63 seconds.

Huang Xiaoxiao is regarded as the leader of the host team after her triumph in the 400m and 400 meter hurdles. But she seemed a little careless in the last 30 meters, and finished second with 3 minutes 30.64, failing to live out her triple gold dream. Shanghai stood third.

On the men's side, Guangdong grabbed the other gold of the 4 X 400m relay, which was the last of the six-day athletics events. The team won in a convincing 3 mnutes 06.37 seconds. Sichuan finished second and Zhejiang stood third.
