Special Report: 11th National Games |
Home favorite Huang Xiaoxiao would storm to victory in the women's 400m hurdles to clinch her second gold at the National Games. The 25-year-old, who had won the 400m on Thursday, was fast out of the starting blocks and remained unchallenged in the last three hurdles. She even slowed down to acknowledge the cheers from a sold-out Olympic Sports center, and crossed the line in 55.49 seconds.
Shanghai's Pan Amei finished second, and Sichuan's Yang Qi stood third. Two more seconds and Huang would have equaled the national record of 53.96 set by Han Qing at the 7th National Games. But the winner chose to enjoy the race and share her joy with a more than 40,000 crowd.
Huang Xiaoxiao said, I found the crowd was very enthusiastic. I think tonight not only belongs to Liu Xiang, but also to all the women hurdlers.
So the proud flying woman clinched her second gold for the hosts, as the 25-year-old also won the 400m on Thursday.
