An Asian games champion faced a tough challenge in the men's 100-meter butterfly. Zhou Jiawei faced Shi Feng of Shanghai. As Liu Zige's teammate and under the guide of the same coach with Liu, 22-year-old Shi Feng was the hot favorite in this event. But Shi Feng started slowly on Friday, placing sixth after the first 50 meters. Zhou won the event at the previous two National Games, and chalked up 51.24 seconds to finish first. The 2007 national champion Shi Feng didn't give in and battled to clock 51.98 for silver.Chen Weiwu from Shandong province placed third in 52.38. Zhou's result equaled the Asian mark and broke his record of 51.36 set at last year's National Championships. The world record of the event stands at 49.82 seconds. Zhou's now scored the 100 meter butterfly victory at three consecutive National Games. Zhou was 50m butterfly champion at Doha Asian Games. Saturday will see the last day's swimming competition. Olympic runner-up Zhang Lin will fight for his fourth gold.
