Zhao Jing wins the second gold

Zhao Jing from Hubei province was the hot favorite in the women's 200-meter backstroke. The 19-year-old was looking for her second gold medal in the national games, after breaking the Asian record to win the 100-meter backstroke on Tuesday. Zhao started well and led all the way. Zhao Jing was the world record holder in the 50-meter event after taking gold in 27.06 seconds at the Rome World championships in July. Bai Anqi from Zhejiang tried to pass her opponent, but failed as Zhao dominated all the way to take the title in 2 minutes 7.57 seconds. Zhao Jing's result was 0.17 seconds slower than the national record, held by He Cihong for 15 years.

Zhao Jing said she was unhappy with the result, as she was looking to break both the Asian record and the national record.

But China's top backstroke swimmer still added two gold medals for Hubei. Teenager Bai Anqi took the silver with two minutes 8.4 seconds. The bronze medal went to Zhou Yanxi of Shanghai.
