New Asian record set in 200m breaststroke final

Former world record holder Qi Hui set one more Asian record on the day in the women's 200m breaststroke final. Qi Hui was facing a challenge from Shanghai's Ji Liping. Ji kept the lead in the first 150m, but Qi Hui's final sprint proved much better, as she quickly caught up in the final 50m to touch the wall first.

The two-time Asian winner and national champion, chalked up a time of 2 mins 21.37 to beat Japanese swimmer Nanaka Tamura's record of 2:22.83 set at the Rome World Championships in July.

Qi Hui was quite satisfied with her result, considering it another career peak after overcoming a low point in 2007.

It was Qi's 3rd win following her 100m breaststroke and 200m individual medley titles at the on-going National Games.

This is the veteran's fourth National Games tour, her first being in 1997. Four years ago, she bagged four gold medals at the 10th National Games.

Ji Liping pocketed a silver with Zhao Jing from Shanxi province settled for bronze.
