Chinese ethnic minority shooter Yong Fujun encountered Chen Wenyuan from Jiangsu in the men's archery finals. It was the fourth National Games appearance for Yong Fujun, who is from the Xibo ethnic group of Shaanxi. Newly-crowned world champion Chen started well as he took 27 points after the first three arrows. Yong faced a slight one point deficit.
The rest of the competition was close and intense. The two archers were level at 79-all after 9 arrows.
Each round includes three arrows. The 21-year-old Chen Wenyuan scored only 8 points for a key arrow in the fourth round.
That gave Yong Fujun his chance. He rose to the occasion to edge Chen by just one point. He shot a 28 points for the last three arrows while Chen just shot 27. The 28-year-old Xibo shooter took his second national-game gold medal in his 15-year archery career.
