Sun Wenli takes controversial gold in steeplechase

A Shandong athlete won the men's 3000 meter steeplechase. Sun Wenli delighted the home crowd with a winning time of 8 minutes 25.11 seconds.  Lin Xiangqian of Jiangsu finished just over 2 seconds back. But the popular victory stirred some controversy in the stadium.  Lin said the winner pushed and blocked his way to victory.  Lin's appeal to the organizing committee was rejected.

So Sun Wenli clinched the gold medal for the hosts. Lin Xiangqian took the silver for Jiangsu. The bronze medal went to Yang Tao of Ningxia in 8:38.89.
