Hong Kong star rider Wong Kam-po was taking part in the men's Points Race. Wong won his first national title at the road race in 1997 and became a well-known rider after that. But track cycling is not his forte.
The Point Race is decided by the total sprint points gained.
Team-play strategy was used by Shanghai dui Zhang Hui and Xu Gang. Xu led Zhang in the most of the race, but left some moments for Zhang to score. With his help, Zhang Hui won the title, his teammate Xu Gang settling for 11th place, but was obviously happy with that. Wong Kam-po only made it to 9th place.
Seven cycling golds are still up for grabs in the following competitions.
