Weightlifting: Qi Xihui lifts 75kg odd gold

the final women's weightlifting medal was a contest between the three strongest women in China. and there was also plenty of drama in the women's 75kg odd category

- With Athens Olympic champion and local hero Tang Gonghong out of the tournament due to injury, world champion Mu Shuangshuang from Jilin was the hot favorite to win the gold medal
- but the Jilin woman only lifted 140kg in the snatch
- and in the clean and jerk, Mu easily raised 175kg. She later tried 184kg, but failed and had to settle a total of 315kg

-The snatch event provided the first real drama of the day...
-Underdog Zhou Lulu of the PLA stepped up strongly in the snatch competition and lifted 148kg. That was eight kilos more than the world record set by South Korean Jang Mi-ran last summer...
-The effort motivated Mu to try 184kg in the clean and jerk.

-And in the clean and jerk...
-Zhou tried 175kg in her third attempt after lifting 170kg...
-She looked confident before giving the 5 kilogram increase a try...
-The P-L-A lifter successfully raised the 175 kilograms...
-She eventually finished with a snatch and jerk total of 323kg solidly in contention for the gold medal.
-  But Zhou's performance will not be written in the world record books because the governing body, the International Weightlifting Federation, only recognizes records set in world, continental and Olympic competitions.

-however, there would be more drama to come
-Qi Xihui representing Hunan, had an unnoticed start in the snatch at 138kg. she steadily hoisted a winning jerk of 186kg, six kilos more than her fifth attempt, to nail the gold with a total of 324kg, just two kilos short of the world record.
-The 21-year-old Zhou settled with the silver at 323kg, while Mu Shuangshuang of Jilin took the bronze with 315kg.  
 
Qi Xihui said, "I was desperate in the clean and jerk, because I'm not strong at the snatch and strong in the clean and jerk. so I tried my limit in the jerk."
