One contestant in the National Games is leaving her sport while she's on top of the game. 2000m women's singles sculls racer Zhang Xiuyun of Anhui has decided to end her athletic career after winning gold at the Games.

Zhang Xiuyun has won 3 golds in previous National Games. Facing some strong opposition, including Olympic champions Tang Bin and Jin Ziwei, Zhang proved that she was still strong enough to overpower her younger opponents. She finally won the race with a winning time of 7 minutes 34.98 seconds, and with it her fourth National Games title.

The Jiangxi team, led by Olympic runner-up Gao Yulan, took the lead all the way to take the gold in the women's 2000m quadruple double scull final. Liaoning and Hebei finished second and third.

The Liaoning team faced off a challenge from two strong rivals to win a gold medal in the men's lightweight coxless four. Guangdong and Jiangsu finished behind Liaoning in the final.
