The Veteran chalked up 2 minutes 8.32 seconds to outshine silver medalist Liu Jing by a full two seconds.
Qi is a two-time Asian winner and national champion. In winning, she managed to lop over one second off the Asian record set by Chinese swimmer Wu Yanyan in 1997.
Qi Hui, from the PLA team qualified for the final with a second place finish after the preliminary and semifinal.
The 200m individual medley is an exhausting event that combines all four strokes. It was Qi's second win following her 100m breaststroke title at the on-going National Games.
This is the veteran's fourth National Games tour, her first being in 1997. Four years ago, she bagged four gold medals at the 10th National Games.
In her Olympic debut in Sydney, Qi smashed the then women's 200m breaststroke world record in the semifinal, then finished fourth in the event.
