BrawnGP driver Jenson Button received a heroes welcome in Kent, England on Tuesday after winning his maiden Formula One World Championship.
The 29 year-old made his first public appearance on home soil since securing the title in Brazil two days ago. Despite qualifying a disappointing 14th in Brazil, Button made up five positions on the opening lap and ran as high as second place by the halfway mark. He ultimately finished fifth, but that was enough to secure the title with one round to spare. In front of the partisan crowd, Button talked about what spurred him most to win at the race.
Button said, "I wanted to get the job done and I wanted to win the championship before the last race and starting in 14th I made it very difficult for myself. I enjoy that circuit very much actually in Sao Paolo and it is always difficult when you are fighting for the championship with a Brazilian who has put it on pole in his home country. But that really spurred me on more than anything else."
