Rowers paddled their way into the National Games spotlight with eight finals on Monday. The Zhejiang team was the biggest winner of the day, claiming two golds, two silvers and two bronzes. Hosts Shandong claimed two gold medals.
The Henan rowing team announced it was withdrawing from the National Games after one of its female members Guo Lina, tested positive for 19-norandrostenedione and was expelled from the games. The Henan team has been stripped of its place in the rowing semifinal in the lightweight women's double sculls and lightweight women's quadruple sculls.
Back to the races. The combination of Xu Dongxiang and Yan Shimin went to the top of the podium for Zhejiang in the women's lightweight double scull event. The pair claimed gold with a winning time of 7 minutes, 52.50 seconds. Fan Xuefei and Pan Feihong took second place.
After only 10 minutes, the Zhejiang team celebrated another victory, as Sun Jie and Wang Tiexin took the men's lightweight double scull gold medals. The pair maintained a big cushion for the whole race. They crossed the line first in 7 minutes, 1.54 seconds, ahead of the Shanghai team who claimed the silver. The bronze went to Jiangsu.
