Zhang Yu adds 4th swimming gold for Beijing

Over in the men's 100m backstroke event. Shi Feng in lane 3 got off to a flying start and kept the lead for the first 50 meters. But at the first turn, He Jianbin from Guangdong caught up the pace to take the lead. But his lead was only good until the final 40 meters when an unnoticed Zhang Yu made a sudden sprint.

The rookie swimmer from Beijing finished first with a winning time of 55.14 seconds to claim the gold. Zhang later said he hadn't expected to win. His result adds the 4th gold medal for the Beijing team in this National Games.

Shi Feng from Shanghai won the silver medal, with the bronze going to He Jianbin.
