Liu adds a gold for host province

Olympic weightlifting champion Liu Chunhong didn't disappoint her home province at the National Games. She put host Shandong on the medal scoreboard by winning gold in the women's 69 kilogram category.

Liu was determined to bring joy to her supporters with a top performance in front of her home audience. She successfully lifted 115 kilograms on the first attempt in the snatch, and advanced to 120 kilograms in the second. But she made an error in her third attempt at 125, and could go no further. A potential challenger emerged, with Chen Lin of Jiangsu successfully lifting 125 kilograms. She was first after the snatch with a 5 kilogram margin on Liu. So it all came down to the jerk. Chen cleared 140 kilograms, but failed in two attempts at 145. She settled for second place with a total of 265. The world record holder Liu showed serious strength in the jerk. She hoisted 147 kilograms on her 1st try. It was good enough to win Liu the gold medal with a total of 267.
