New face Li Xueying beats world champions to win women's 58 kg division

- Next in weightlifting. there were ups and downs. Teenager Li Xueying from Henan was definitely the  underdog as she found herself up against two world champions Qiu Hongmei and Sun Caiyan.
- Li successfully lifted 111kg in the snatch, to the amazement of the spectators.

-the 19-year-old tried 140kg
-The Henan girl used all her strength and steadily she succeeded in lifting 140kg in the clean and jerk, (replay) which improved her chance of winning gold medal.

- World Champion Qiu Hongmei would not fight to hand Li the gold medal
- She required 142kg to challenge the world record
- Qiu looked confident and she lifted the weights to her shoulder
- but unexpectedly, she sprained her right arm when attempting to lift the weight to full arms,
- (replay) which ended her chances of winning the gold medal and breaking world record. Qiu had won the bronze medal winner of this division in the 10th Chinese National Games, and still holds the jerk world record at 141kg,

- another veteran the 35-year-old Sun Caiyan of Liaoning, world champion in 2003, also tried 142kg in her clean and jerk. but she fell to the floor failing to lift the weight. but Sun managed to take the bronze at 245kg, before she announced retirement at the press conference.

- eventually, Li Xueying won the gold medal with a total of 251kg. this was her first gold medal in the national games.

"I think my performance was Okay. I didn't think too much, and just stayed calm, improved my performance step by step and one lift after another, doing my utmost in every lift. I believed that I could do it. and my coach also told me so."
