The stars of sport shared the spotlight during the parade marking the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China. One of the highlights of the massive and historic event was the sport formation, which featured former and current Olympic and World champions.

The formation included athletes, coaches and various sport professionals. World and Olympic champions from the past 6 decades appeared on the float, including China's first male athletics gold medalist Liu Xiang, and China's first Olympic champion Xu Haifeng. Some elder national sports icons also passed Tiananmen Square on the float to celebrate the grand occasion.

And the Beijing Olympic Formation featured representatives of BOCOG and honored all the participants and volunteers. Major contributors to last summer's Games rode on the float in front of a replica of the Beijing Olympic cauldron.

The formations highlighted China's remarkable achievements in sport over the past three decades, which reached a climax at the Beijing Games. Liu Xiang talked about his pride in taking part in the event.

Liu Xiang, Former Olympic & World Champion said "As a Chinese, it's truly honorable and great to witness this occasion, especially standing on the float. The moment the aircraft flew over my head, I felt extremely honored. I felt so proud to be a Chinese."
